Sewing Machine Maintenance 101

Sewing Machine Repair Guidelines
If you love to sew, your sewing machine is probably among your most valuable assets. Like any appliance, your sewing machine will work more reliably and will live longer if you take proper care of it – here are some tips how to maintain your machine:
-          Make sure that the machine is not connected to the power supply – turning off the machine is not enough, you need to unplug it before you start any maintenance work to prevent accidental starts;

-          Keeping the machine clean – sewing machines accumulate lots of thread pieces, dust and lint that need to be removed carefully each time when you finish using the machine. Use a small, soft, nylon brush for the process and make sure you clean not only the easy-to-access parts of the machine, but under the needle plate, in the bobbin case as well as around the feed dog. If you find grime resulting from dust or lint that has mixed with oil, remove that goo carefully with a toothpick or some other pointed object;

-          Deep cleaning – disassemble the parts of the machine head and introduce cleaning liquid into the oil holes and wherever you see dirt that needs to be dissolved. Clean the pedal and the handwheel as well, then wipe everything dry with a soft, clean and dry cloth. If the machine needs oiling, apply the lubricant carefully through the designated holes, then assemble the machine and turn it on to check proper functioning.  If it is not sewing correctly, take your machine to a sewing machine repair Arvada center to remedy the problem.
